Behind the Scenes
I'm Sarah Beaven and I am the face behind Modern Operations & Design. I spent nearly a decade working in marketing at a large software company based in Massachusetts. With that came experience setting up websites, email campaigns, and event planning with global teams and vendors, managing a program's corporate sponsorships, and managing many projects. Working at a large innovative company, I gained experience with lots of technology that streamlines workflows, enhances communication, and keeps you organized. I want to help smaller businesses find ways to to do the same, provide marketing support, and project management.
It's easy to complain about the part of your job you don't like, but it's much more rewarding to find ways to make it better. Very early in my career I proposed a process improvement that reduced a tedious workflow from 17 minutes to 2. It took some time, effort, the right technology, and the right people, but saved lots of time in the end. From then on I was hooked and fortunate to continue to work on varying levels of process improvement projects for years. Small things can make a big difference.

Eventually I started a family and my first child had complex health care needs at the time. I needed more flexibility than a busy corporate career could offer. I left the workforce and loved being home with my kids. I started to volunteer my time to help with my son's local non-profit preschool and I realized how much I miss tackling projects, finding the best way to do things, and clearly communicating messages to an audience. Now I'm doing the best of both worlds and balancing my two passions, my family and my work.
